St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara, the founder of Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), an indigenous religious congregation, is our source of inspiration as the influence of his vision and dreams permeates through our activities today. St. Kuriakose, a pioneering educationalist and an unparalleled social reformer of the 19th century, foresaw the changes that would take place and wanted to build a society based on Fatherhood of God and Universal Humanity.
The CMI congregation, that this Karmayogi founded in 1831 at Mannanam near Kottayam, is the first and foremost among the indigenous congregations in India. He pioneered several initiatives to revolutionize the education sector of his times. He started Sanskrit schools and opened them up to everyone irrespective of the caste or creed. He founded the CMC Congregation, the members of which are doing splendid service in various sectors all around the globe. His writings are rich treasures of spiritual and philosophical wisdom alongside practical tips for a happy family life. The Testament of a Father to His Children is certainly a proof in this regard.
